Swiss Minimalist Design: Museum-Quality Aesthetics
· 2 MIN READ · SITE UPDATES
I wanted PatronView to feel like browsing a world-class museum catalog. This meant moving beyond typical web design toward something more sophisticated and purposeful.
Design Philosophy
Our approach draws from Swiss design principles and museum typography:
- Typography Hierarchy: Franklin Gothic for bold headers, Libre Franklin for readable body text
- Color Restraint: Black text on white backgrounds with blue accent links (#007bff)
- Generous Whitespace: 4rem padding and 3rem headers create breathing room
- Functional Minimalism: Every element serves a clear purpose
Technical Implementation
Custom Font Loading
We self-host Franklin Gothic for consistent rendering:
@font-face {
font-family: 'Franklin Gothic';
src: url('/fonts/FranklinGothic.ttf') format('truetype');
font-display: swap;
}
Responsive Grid System
Clean layouts that work across all devices:
.max-w-7xl mx-auto px-6 lg:px-8
Consistent Component Patterns
- Tables: Black headers, alternating gray rows, 1rem padding
- Cards: 1px black borders, 1.5rem padding, subtle hover shadows
- Links: Blue with underline, 0.7 opacity on hover
User Experience
The design creates a sense of authority and trustworthiness that’s essential for financial data. Users report the site feels “professional” and “museum-quality” - exactly what we were aiming for.
Performance Considerations
Despite the custom typography, we maintain excellent performance:
- Font preloading for instant text rendering
- Minimal CSS footprint with Tailwind utility classes
- No JavaScript required for core visual elements
Good design isn’t just about aesthetics - it’s about building trust with your users.
