Privacy Page, FAQ Sections, and Explore Other Patrons

It’s been a busy few weeks since our last update. We added almost 1,000,000 new contributions and over 150 new institutions. Here’s what’s new.

🌎 New Institution Monthly Summaries

I wrote up detailed posts for the past few months about the new institutions we’ve been adding:

🔒 Privacy Page

We added a dedicated privacy page that explains where our data comes from and how we handle it. That means being clear about our sources (publicly available annual reports and donor lists from cultural institutions) and what we do with the data.

We believe transparency builds trust. Visitors can now understand exactly how PatronView works before diving into the database.

📖 How to Read This Page

Patron pages now include a “How to Read This Page” section that helps visitors understand what they’re looking at. It explains things like:

What the contribution levels mean
How we determine donation ranges
When leadership or board positions are noted

This was a response to feedback we received. Not everyone is familiar with how museum donor recognition works. So now there’s context right on the page.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Every patron page now includes an FAQ section with questions like:

“Where does [Patron Name] donate?”
“How much has [Patron Name] contributed?”
“What institutions does [Patron Name] support?”

These questions are answered automatically based on the patron’s contribution data. For patrons with bios, we also pull in key facts. So if a patron’s bio mentions they served on a museum board, that shows up in the FAQ too.

We also added support for more patron types. Trusts, funds, government entities, and endowments now display with proper grammar. So you’ll see “Where does the Smith Family Trust donate?” instead of awkward phrasing.

👥 Explore Other Patrons

At the bottom of each patron page, there’s now an “Explore Other Patrons” section showing 8 random patrons from the same institution. This helps visitors discover connections. If you’re looking at a donor to the Met, you can see who else supports the Met.

We added a show more/less toggle so the section doesn’t take over the page. Click to expand and see more related patrons.

🔮 What’s Next

We’re still expanding our internal software to help us rapidly add more institutions and hundreds of thousands of more contributions.

I also want to explore a new IRS Form 990 data project which I’ll write about soon. It has to do with creating a source of truth for current and past Board of Directors / Board of Trustees positions.
