I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but yet again this is our biggest month yet. We added 197 new institutions to PatronView with a combined total of 698,079 contributions . That’s up from 130 in January. We keep growing, though I have a hunch that March is going to slow down a bit because we’re shifting focus to improving existing data rather than just adding more. But February was big.

Performing arts dominated this month, partly because we were working with a ballet company near New York City to help enrich their outreach database. That collaboration pushed us to process a lot of performing arts 990 filings at once. Pacific Northwest Ballet (23,890 contributions), Village Theatre (22,299), and The Joffrey Ballet (9,234) were the three biggest in that category.
It was also a big month for botanical gardens. We added ones in San Francisco, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Pittsburgh, Birmingham, and more. A lot of these had been on our list for a while and we finally got to them.
A couple of fun facts from the data: Liberty Wildlife in Phoenix came in with 31,942 contributions, the most of any wildlife organization we’ve added to the database. And Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx had 48,245 contributions, the highest single institution this month.

Conclusion
That’s 197 institutions and nearly 700,000 contributions in a single month. To put it another way: in February alone, we added more patron giving records than most individual institutions have in their entire donor history.
The geographic spread this month was wide. Seattle had one of its biggest batches ever, with 12 institutions added including Pacific Northwest Ballet , Museum of Flight , and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center . Houston was right behind it, with 13 institutions including Houston Ballet , Hermann Park Conservancy , and Houston Parks Board . Boston, Nashville, and Chicago each had strong months too.
A note on what’s coming: March is probably going to look different. We’re going to slow down on new institution additions and put more energy into improving the data we already have. Better patron bios, cleaner contribution records, more cross-linking between patrons who give to multiple institutions. The database is big enough now that quality matters more than volume. We’ll still add institutions, just not at this pace.
